STOP DUTTON’S PUBLIC SERVICE CUTS

Peter Dutton and the Coalition have committed to slashing our public services if elected.

Australians rely on our public services every day. Veterans and pensioners needing support, new parents, students, anyone using Medicare and so many more.

“The first thing we’ll do is sack those 36,000 public servants”. Nationals Leader, David Littleproud – Radio Triple M, 30 August 2024

Peter Dutton has refused to say where they will cut these jobs from until after the election. What we know is that cutting 1 in 5 public service jobs is going to impact every Australian and the services we rely on. We know that it is going to tear jobs and services out of communities all across our country.

Same old slash and burn

The Coalition has a long history of devaluing and undermining the public sector. Who can forget the Robodebt disaster which traumatised tens of thousands of innocent welfare recipients and cost taxpayers billions of dollars to undo? Or the fact that the Coalition spent at least $21billion outsourcing public sector work to consultants such as PwC during their last year in office?

The choice in the coming election is stark

Under the Coalition, public services were privatised, neglected and essentially run into the ground. Wait times, backlogs and delays skyrocketed whiles workers’ pay went backwards. Over the past three years, we’ve secured changes from the Albanese Government to begin to rebuild our public services. Staff numbers have increased, service standards are up and waiting times in crucial frontline agencies such as Veterans Affairs, Medicare and Centrelink are starting to improve. We need to continue to build on this work, not go backwards.

Don’t Risk Dutton

Now all of this is at risk. Peter Dutton sees these crucial jobs as ‘government waste’ and given the chance, he will cut them.
