The worst attack on public services ever

With an election to be held on Saturday 3 May, the battle for essential public services and jobs has kicked off.

Peter Dutton’s plan to slash more than 41,000 public sector jobs represents the most severe attack on public services ever seen in Australia. This is nearly four times bigger than the cuts Tony Abbott took to the 2013 election.

As well as destroying the livelihoods of 41,000 workers and their families, the cuts would severely damage the essential services millions of Australians rely on.

So much at risk

This is a plan for delays, disasters, and a decline in critical services. It is a plan that will leave veterans once again lost in a backlog of tens of thousands of unprocessed claims.

It will leave people in aged care exposed to danger. It will leave our country vulnerable to security and biosecurity risks. It will leave communities vulnerable in the face of natural disasters.

The choice is stark

Dutton has tried to argue that a Coalition Government would ensure ‘frontline’ services would be protected from cuts but has provided no information about how that could be achieved.

The reality is that the proposed cuts are so large – one in every five jobs - that it’s impossible that services would not be decimated.

What you can do
